English Urban Summer Camp: July, Day 10

Foamy Friday! 🐠

Friday is finally here! Today we have had our much anticipated bubble bath party.

Before breakfast we had our usual routine of activities, we got to keep up with Indonesia and it’s culture and later on we took off more and more clothes… for the huge bubble bath! During the bubbly party we did quite a few things, like warming up first: stretching our bodies, wiggling our joints and getting ready, in general, for the fun!

Shortly Before the crazy foam machine was turned on, we also did a bit of aerobics with the entertainer, she was great! We danced to Shakira, Daddy Yankee and other famous artists; we even danced to the adorable “Soy una taza.” song, all together as one big group of kitchen utensils. 🍴

The bubble bath was great, we all enjoyed the refreshing feeling of the bubbles and foam on our skin! There were so many bubbles it looked like snow, it was super fun and si similar to snow that some of us did “bubble angles” and played with the foam, creating crazy hair styles, playing volleyball with the bubbles surrounding us and so on. 😎

When it was time to go, we took our little Zinnias home, to take care of them. 🌱

See you on Monday! ☀

English Urban Summer Camp: July, Day 9

Today has been a different day, we had a visit from “Coordinadora de personas con discapacidad física de canarias”. They came to raise awareness of the difficulties that people with physical disabilities suffer each day. To start off the children were given crutches and they had to reach the other side of the playground hopping on one leg, using the crutches to help them. Afterwards in pairs they sat in a wheelchair ( one child sat and the other pushed) and they had to weave between the cones arriving at a ramp that they had to go up, this was not easy, they had to assure that the wheelchair was in line with the ramp. Once down the other side of the ramp the children reached a walker which they used to get to a table where they found themselves with a variety of activities.

First they had to complete daily chores using only one hand, open a bottle, tie laces, complete a small puzzle, button and unbutton and finally zip and unzip a jacket. Finally the children had their eyes covered (as if they were blind) and they had to use their other senses to guess what they were given using their touch and smell.
The children have learnt how hard it can be when we have one of our senses taken away.
We have really enjoyed the experience and worked together as a team to complete the tasks.

English Urban Summer Camp: July, Day 8

Hi everyone! Today, Wednesday we started the day at 8:00 am in our super Summer Camp.
The first Group that I took was the group 5, the oldest. Some of our guys were playing a football match with me and the other kids were playing tenis, basket and some different games.
Then, I caught Group 1, the smallest kids and we were playing everybody together running around the playground and playing “hiding place”.
After that, from 10:30 am until 11:15 am we had a delicious breakfast.
Then, the Group 4 came with me to the playground and play some funny games.
Immediately after them Group 2, our little ladies were playing with clay and passing the ball with the racket (obviously carefully).
Finally, we finish playing several groups together like skipping rope, splashing in the pool and having an a great great time!
